Preheat your waffle iron.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt and sugar.

Add the milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract, then stir just until everything comes together. Let the batter sit for 5 to ⏱️ 10 minutes.

Lightly spray your waffle iron with cooking oil, then pour about 1 cup of batter, depending on the size of your waffle iron, into the center of the iron, leaving about a half inch from the edge, and close the lid. Cook until crispy (see notes on cooking with a cast iron stovetop waffle iron).

Use a fork to gently and carefully lift the waffle out. Repeat for the rest of the batter.
