In a saucepan, heat the milk and heavy cream over medium heat until just simmering. Do not boil.

In a bowl, whisk egg yolks and sugar until pale and slightly thickened.

Add mascarpone and gently mix until smooth (do not overmix).

Slowly add about 1/2 cup of the hot milk mixture to the egg mixture, whisking constantly to temper.

Pour everything back into the saucepan. Cook over medium-low heat, stirring constantly, until the custard thickens and coats the back of a spoon (about 5–⏱️ 8 minutes).

Remove from heat and transfer to a bowl. Let cool completely (refrigerate or use an ice bath).

Once cooled, stir in vanilla, espresso powder, brewed espresso, and coffee liqueur.

Churn in an ice cream maker according to manufacturer instructions until it reaches soft-serve consistency.

Transfer to a container, cover, and freeze for 2–⏱️ 4 hours until firm.
