In a large saucepan over medium heat, heat oil until shimmering. Add bacon, onion, celery, carrot, and garlic. Cook until vegetables have softened, about 5 to ⏱️ 7 minutes.

Stir in broth, beans, split peas, and bay leaf. Cover and bring to a boil, then transfer to a slow cooker. Cover and cook on HIGH 3 to ⏱️ 4 hours or LOW 7 to ⏱️ 8 hours.
