Melt butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add chopped onion. Season with salt and pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, until golden brown and tender, 12 to ⏱️ 15 minutes. Add garlic and cook, stirring, ⏱️ 1 minute. Add flour and cook, stirring, ⏱️ 2 minutes.
