Place the olive oil, garlic and red pepper flakes in a straight-sided sauté pan and turn the heat to medium. When the garlic is aromatic, but not browning, add the oregano and basil, stirring for a minute. Add the tomato paste and cook, stirring for 2 to ⏱️ 3 minutes. Add the crushed tomatoes and bring the mixture to a simmer.

Lower the heat and simmer for 10 to ⏱️ 20 minutes, until the sauce thickens slightly and the flavors have blended nicely. Season to taste with salt and freshly ground black pepper. If the sauce needs a little sweetening and a little depth, add aged balsamic vinegar to taste.
