Combine 2 oz. whiskey, ¾ oz. lemon juice, and ¾ oz. simple syrup (1:1) in a shaker tin with ice. Shake vigorously until thoroughly chilled, about ⏱️ 15 seconds. Add a large ice cube to a rocks glass and strain whiskey mixture over. Carefully pour ½ oz. red wine slowly over a bar spoon so as to layer the red wine on top of the cocktail.
