In a large pot, cover potatoes with well-salted water by 2 inches. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Then reduce heat to medium and simmer until potatoes are tender when pierced with a knife, about ⏱️ 15-25 minutes.

Drain potatoes thoroughly in a colander and return to the pot. If using a ricer, rice directly into the pot, add remaining ingredients, and stir gently until just combined.

If using a masher, add melted butter and mash potatoes to desired consistency. Stir in cream and 1 teaspoon salt. Then gently combine until potatoes are creamy. Do not over-stir or potatoes will become gluey. Season with salt and pepper to taste and serve hot.
