Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium heat. Lightly brush the grates or pan with oil.

In a large bowl, whisk together the olive oil, balsamic vinegar, black pepper, red pepper flakes, garlic, and 1 teaspoon salt. Add the broccoli spears and toss to coat. Allow to stand for ⏱️ 15 minutes and up to ⏱️ 2 hours.

Sprinkle the broccoli with the remaining ½ teaspoon salt. Grill the spears, covered, flipping once halfway through, until the stems start to brown and the florets begin to char, 8 to ⏱️ 10 minutes.

Transfer the broccoli to a platter and squeeze over the juice.
