Cook the pasta in a pan of boiling salted water for ⏱️ 8-10 minutes, until al dente. Drain, reserving a cupful of cooking water and set aside.

While the pasta cooks, warm the olive oil in a large frying pan set over medium heat. Add the garlic and chilli and cook for ⏱️ 1 minute, until fragrant.

Stir in the cannellini beans, passata, balsamic vinegar, tamari (or soy sauce) and maple syrup, and season generously with salt and pepper. Simmer for ⏱️ 3-4 minutes, until slightly reduced, then roughly mash with a potato masher or the back of a fork.

Next, add the spinach and the basil, stirring until wilted. Taste to check seasoning and adjust as needed.

Pour in the cooked pasta, adding a couple of tablespoons of pasta cooking water to loosen if needed. Divide between the bowls and scatter over the remaining basil and a drizzle of olive oil.
