Place the can in a large pot and fill with water making sure to completely cover the can.

Bring the water to a boil, reduce the heat and simmer for ⏱️ 2-4 hours depending on how dark you want it. Note: Make sure that the can is always completely covered in water.

Turn the heat off and let the can cool in the water.
