For the simple syrup: In a small saucepan over medium heat, whisk together the sugar and 1 cup water. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the sugar is completely dissolved (the syrup should be clear, not cloudy), 2 to ⏱️ 3 minutes. Remove from the heat and transfer to a heatproof container. Let cool completely, about ⏱️ 1 hour on the counter or ⏱️ 30 minutes in the refrigerator. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator until ready to use.

For the garnish and cocktail: Place 2 tablespoons (1 ounce) of the simple syrup in a small bowl. Place the granulated sugar on a small plate. Roll 6 of the cranberries in the simple syrup, letting any excess drip off, then in the granulated sugar to coat. Skewer 3 sugared cranberries on a cocktail pick. Repeat to make a second garnished pick.

In a cocktail shaker, combine the lemon wedges, mint, remaining cranberries, and 2 ounces (¼ cup) of the simple syrup and muddle.

Fill the shaker halfway with ice and add the bourbon and cranberry juice. Cover and shake vigorously for about ⏱️ 15 seconds. Strain into 2 glasses filled with ice. Garnish each with a sugared cranberry pick and mint sprig.
