Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F; then grease and 8"x8" oven safe baking dish.

In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and sugar; then cut in the butter with a pastry blender or fork until the mixture resembles coarse meal. Reserve 1/2 cup of the mixture for the topping in a separate bowl.

Next, add the baking powder, baking soda and cinnamon to the flour mixture. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and buttermilk and add to the dry mixture. Stir just until the dry ingredients are moistened.

Pour the batter into the pan, scatter the reserved topping over the batter; then bake for ⏱️ 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the corner of the cake comes out clean.
