Cherry Syrup and Rum Soda
One easy way to keep fresh cherries from going bad is to make a quick syrup from them. It's incredibly tasty.

Make Cherry Syrup: Combine pitted cherries, sugar, lemon juice, and 1/2 cup water in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer, and cook until cherries are soft, 8 to ⏱️ 10 minutes.

Mash fruit, then strain through a fine mesh strainer, pressing to remove as much liquid as possible. Cool completely.

Make cocktail: Combine Cherry Syrup, rum or bourbon, and ice in a glass. Top with cola and garnish with a cherry.
