With a pastry brush spread olive oil onto the pita bread, then spread marinara sauce evenly between the pita rounds, leaving a 1/2-inch border around the edge. Sprinkle the garlic over the sauce. Top with the mozzarella slices and then the tomatoes, leaving gaps in between.

Transfer 1 pita to the air fryer basket.

Air fry at 380F until the cheese is melted and golden and the pita is crisp, 4 to ⏱️ 5 minutes (adjust time, if needed to prevent the pita from over-browning.)

Right out of the air fryer, sprinkle the basil and Parmesan shavings over the top, along with 1 to 2 grinds of fresh cracked black pepper and a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes.
