Use a serrated knife to slice the cake in half horizontally. Then cut out 6 circles with a 2 1/2-inch round cookie or biscuit cutter. Cut each circle in half horizontally to create 12 rounds total.

Spread about 2 teaspoons of chocolate-hazelnut spread or other filling over each round. Stack 3 rounds on top of one another with the filling-side up to create 4 mini cakes. Freeze until set, about ⏱️ 30 minutes.

Frost the cakes with the whipped topping. (Placing a cake on the bottom of a small inverted bowl makes a useful cake stand for frosting.) Return the cakes to the freezer and freeze until set, about ⏱️ 30 minutes more.
